Major League Fishing Pro Josh Bertrand came to us looking for a way to ID fish in his livewell that did not impede the ability for the fish to breathe properly.   After many ideas and trials, the Cull ID Tags were born.   

Working with marine biologists and professional anglers, DD26 fishing designed clips that are used on the Rear Soft Dorsal Fin.  A few key features of the soft dorsal fin are that this area contains no bones.  The tissue also has a regenerative function.  They are similar to the pelvic fins underneath the bass.   Often times during the spawn you will notice the pelvic fins take a beating and a few weeks/months later are beautiful and full again.  The use of the DD26 Cull ID clips provides a way to mark your fish without causing permanent damage or death to the fish.  Providing a neutrally buoyant tag was difficult, but we were able to crack the code.  This allows the tag to stay upright without pulling the fins to the side or causing the fish to lean one way or the other.

A study was done at the US Open in 2023 and the DD26 Cull ID tags were used by a portion of the anglers.   The results spoke for themselves with a much lower fatality rate than other traditional tags!

Here are some key features:

  • 8 Individually colored and numbered tags that allow usage with any scale.  This makes managing your limit a breeze!
  • Stainless steel clips with the right tightness help increase the life and limit rust and corrosion!
  • The round ID tag tops make it easy to find the fish you are looking for in your livewell.
  • There are no cords or strings to get tangled together, again, keeping your fish safe.

Important things to know before using:

  • The Cull ID tag is an identifier, NOT a stringer to pull your fish out of the livewell with.   They are simply a marker and you should properly remove your fish without tugging on the tags.
  • The tags should be placed on the Rear Soft Dorsal Fin, NOT the Spiny Dorsal Fin with bones!
  • Again, if there are any marks from the clips on the fin, they will not be permanent and do not harm the fishes long term health.

      The Best!!!!

      I honestly do not know how the first review was three stars. These things are legit and will help keep your fish alive. I had two bags over 15lbs of spots and not one threw a tag or caused any damage to the fish. They were lively and stayed at the bottom of the livewell. Honestly after using these I think all over cull methods should be illegal. I’m not sponsored but I want to be!!

      Clips breaking dorsal fin

      I like the overall design and look of the clips, however, I clip mine to the back of the dorsal fin down near the body and every one of them have broke off dorsal fin sections and I find it laying in the livewell. I get that the dorsal fin will grow back, but defeats the purpose of identifying my fish for culling purposes.
